My needs were simple enough for the room where this unit would be used, so my checklist only demanded (1) no less than HD/1080p and (2) no more than 32/34" at a (3) great price. I got all three with this Samsung UN32J5003.

Many of the reviews were critical of the sound, from basic volume ability to overall audio quaility. Given that we never know if the reviewer is 19 or 90, plus the fact that a lot of consumers fail to recognize that such devices are sold as "monitors" as opposed to your grandparent's massive console TV with the built-in 6" midrange speaker cones, there were enough complaints on this topic to get my attention.

The observation allowed me to be forewarned and, for less than $80, I added a soundbar to my order. While I found the audio "as is" unspectacular but okay and volume levels acceptable, every person (and the acoustics of every room) is different and, provided you're not plugging it in to an existing surround system, I'd suggest you consider a soundbar add-on as well.

Set-up was simple, plug-and-go. However there's one annoying tic in the form of an in-store screen bug with the logo/model number/resolution etc it takes a bit of doing to get rid of. You have to go into menu, then select "plug and play", then under display mode take it off "store display" and set to home viewing. Sounds simple enough, but I'm pretty good with electronics and it took me three tries until I hit Enter (or something) correctly and the screen bug turned off and stayed off.

The picture quality is excellent, and there's the usual range of fine adjustments available for the tone & temp tweakers out there.

One short of 5 stars (even adjusting for price range) because the product is light (good) to the point of feeling a bit flimsy (not so good). The flimsyest being the thin plastic "feet" provided for shelf or table-top positioning. On that topic, buyers should be aware that no wall mount hardware is included, so if that's your plan consider it another add-on.

All-in-all the TV has met or surpassed expectations at the price point, was very well packaged and arrived better than on-time.
